DMK fields I. Paranthaman and S. Suganya for upcoming Tamil Nadu by‑elections

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced its slate for two pending by‑elections in Tamil Nadu. According to The Hindu, the party’s legal wing deputy secretary I. Paranthaman will contest the Madurantakam constituency, while S. Suganya has been selected for Dharapuram.

Both seats became vacant earlier this year, prompting the Election Commission to schedule by‑polls that will be held alongside several other contests across the state. The outcomes are expected to serve as a barometer of public sentiment toward the DMK government, which has been in power since 2021 under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.

Madurantakam, located in Kanchipuram district, has traditionally been a stronghold for the DMK, though recent swings have made it competitive. Paranthaman, a senior figure in the party’s legal apparatus, brings a background in litigation and party discipline, signalling the DMK’s intent to leverage its organizational machinery. Dharapuram, situated in Tiruppur district, is a more marginal seat where the opposition has made inroads in past elections.
