Four Indian Companies Sanctioned by US Over Links to Iranian Oil Market

The United States Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced on Tuesday that four Indian entities have been placed on a sanctions list for helping move Iranian petroleum products abroad. The move is part of the “Economic Outcast” initiative, a broader effort to choke off revenue streams that fund Tehran’s oil and petrochemical sectors.

The companies identified are Sadashiva Overseas, PP Softtech, Prakrutees Infra and a fourth firm whose name was not disclosed in the official release. Sadashiva Overseas and PP Softtech are accused of importing sizable volumes of refined Iranian petroleum into India, while Prakrutees Infra is reported to have engaged in comparable transactions from May 2023 through February 2026.

Under the sanctions, any assets the listed firms hold under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen, and U.S. persons are prohibited from conducting any business with them. The action expands Washington’s secondary‑sanctions toolkit, which targets non‑U.S. actors that assist Iran in evading international restrictions on its oil exports.

Indian authorities have not issued a public statement yet, but the designation could disrupt trade flows and increase compliance burdens for Indian businesses that deal with sanctioned nations. Analysts suggest the measure may push Indian importers to seek alternative fuel sources and tighten due‑diligence procedures to avoid secondary penalties.

The sanctions arrive as the United States intensifies pressure on Iran following a resurgence in Tehran’s oil shipments in 2023. By naming foreign intermediaries, Washington aims to shrink the cash flow that supports Iran’s nuclear program and regional activities, signaling that companies anywhere in the world could face repercussions for facilitating prohibited Iranian transactions.
