Kerala university's student union unveils online portal to boost governance

The Doctoral Students' Union (DSU) of the University of Kerala has rolled out a dedicated website aimed at reshaping how student governance operates on campus. According to The Hindu, the portal is designed to make the union’s activities more transparent and to invite broader participation from the student body.

The site hosts minutes of meetings, upcoming agenda items, and a channel for students to submit feedback or proposals. Union officials say that by centralising information online, they hope to reduce the information gap that has historically limited student engagement in policy discussions.

"Our goal is to bring decision‑making out of the closed rooms and into the hands of those it affects most – the students," a DSU spokesperson told The Hindu. The portal also features a calendar of events, election timelines, and a repository of past resolutions, allowing newcomers to quickly understand the union’s track record.

Student governance in Indian higher‑education institutions has often been critiqued for opacity and limited outreach. Many universities rely on paper notices or sporadic meetings, which can exclude a large portion of the student population, especially those studying remotely or juggling work.
