Telangana to Conduct Localized Group Hearings, BLOs Lead Voter Roll Updates

Telangana’s Election Commission has announced that it will hold group hearings on a locality basis, aiming to streamline voter‑related grievances before the forthcoming state elections. The initiative will see Block Level Officers (BLOs) taking the lead in verifying documents, updating the electoral roll and addressing complaints raised by residents.

Under the new arrangement, each mandal or village will host a dedicated hearing where a cluster of voters can present their cases in a single session. This approach is intended to reduce the number of individual appointments, cut down waiting times and make the process more accessible for people living in remote areas. Officials expect the localized format to encourage higher participation and improve the accuracy of the voter list.

BLOs, who are already responsible for maintaining electoral records at the grassroots level, will handle the bulk of the verification work. Their duties will include cross‑checking identity proofs, confirming addresses and ensuring that any changes—such as additions, deletions or corrections—are reflected promptly in the official roll. By concentrating these tasks within the group hearings, the commission hopes to alleviate the administrative burden on higher‑level officers.

The Election Commission has indicated that the hearings will be scheduled over the coming weeks, with dates communicated through local authorities and public notices. Stakeholders are urged to bring relevant documents, such as identity cards and address proofs, to facilitate swift processing.
