Temple Trust Targets 5,000 New Trees Before Monsoon Ends

The governing board of the Srisailam temple in Andhra Pradesh has announced an ambitious afforestation effort aimed at boosting the green cover of the sacred complex. Chairperson of the trust board disclosed that the initiative will see 5,000 saplings planted across open areas, garden patches and other landscaped zones maintained by the temple.

The drive is timed to coincide with the region’s monsoon season, allowing the young trees to benefit from abundant rainfall. Officials said the planting will begin immediately and continue through the remainder of the monsoon, ensuring that seedlings receive adequate water during their critical growth phase.

Temple authorities view the project as a dual‑purpose venture: enhancing the aesthetic and ecological value of the pilgrimage site while contributing to broader state‑level reforestation goals. The saplings, sourced from local nurseries, will include native species such as neem, teak and various fruit‑bearing trees, selected for their adaptability to the local climate.

Volunteers from nearby villages, temple staff and devotees are expected to take part in the planting activities. The trust board has also arranged for regular monitoring and maintenance, including watering, mulching and protection against grazing animals, to improve survival rates.

The initiative reflects a growing trend among religious institutions in India to adopt environmentally friendly practices. By integrating large‑scale tree planting into its routine upkeep, the Srisailam temple aims to set an example for other heritage sites seeking to balance cultural preservation with ecological stewardship.
