The Right‑to‑Information (RTI) application obtained by a civic activist reveals that the Union government earmarked Rs 92 crore for repair and renovation work on the official Delhi residences of Union ministers for the fiscal year 2025‑26. The figure covers all maintenance activities carried out on the allotted houses, which are owned by the state and used by ministers while they attend parliamentary duties.

The bulk of the work reported involves routine electrical upkeep. Technicians were tasked with replacing or repairing fans, installing new LED lighting fixtures and addressing other minor electrical faults that arise every few months. In addition, plumbing problems – ranging from leaking taps to clogged drains – required attention on a similarly frequent basis. A less regular but still recurring need was the replacement of floor tiles, an activity typically scheduled every few years as wear and tear accumulate.

Officials overseeing the repairs indicated that the maintenance schedule is driven by the age of the properties and the intensity of use. Electrical components, being subject to constant operation, tend to need replacement or servicing more often than structural elements. Plumbing, while generally durable, can develop issues due to water pressure fluctuations and aging pipework. Tile replacement, on the other hand, is planned as a longer‑term refurbishment to preserve the aesthetic and safety standards of the residences.

The Rs 92 crore outlay reflects the government's commitment to keep the official housing stock in a functional state, ensuring that ministers have safe and habitable accommodations while performing their duties in the capital.
