Andhra chief minister invited to Tirumala Brahmotsavam by temple board

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has formally invited Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to be present at the forthcoming Brahmotsavam at the Tirumala temple, The Hindu reported. The invitation, extended by the board that manages the world‑renowned shrine, comes as the nine‑day festival approaches, a period when the sanctum draws millions of devotees from across India and abroad.

Brahmotsavam, literally the "grand celebration," is the most important annual event on the Tirumala calendar. It features elaborate processions of the deity on various vahanas, nightly fire‑works, and a series of rituals that span over a week. Historically, the festival has been a major economic driver for the region, with local businesses, transport operators and hospitality providers experiencing a surge in activity during the days of heightened pilgrimage.

TTD, a quasi‑governmental body, oversees the temple’s finances, maintenance and the welfare of its staff and pilgrims. Its decisions, especially regarding high‑profile events, are closely watched by both devotees and political leaders. By inviting the chief minister, the board signals an intention to blend religious observance with a show of governmental support, a practice that has precedent in previous administrations.

The chief minister’s participation would mark his first appearance at the Brahmotsavam since taking office in 2019.
